March 27, 2021  – Jeff and Sinh

Two different cultures brought together for the reception.  Sinh wore a beautiful white wedding dress and Jeff wore his dark tux for the ceremony.   Mariachis serenaded the guests while waiting for the couple to make a grand entrance.  For the 1st grand entrance both wore their ceremony apparel.

Rockin’ At The Woodlands Country Club – Houston Texas
January 15, 2021

Yep, another Aggie wedding and whooping from half the ballroom!    The dance floor and front of the stage were the focal point (beside the bride) in the ballroom!   The dance floor was a beautiful large black and white checkerboard, eye candy.   The plates and room furnishing matched as well.

It was  wonderful drive to Houston, Texas and then onto The Woodlands for a country posh wedding.    The Bride and groom had wonderful speeches and cut the lovely Beauty and The Beast cake.    The couple were suppose to have their ceremony at a church but Covid was still around and the ceremony was moved to the Country Club.  But, it turned out beautiful and the ceremony took place in front of a large roaring fire with ceremonial music.

St. Anthony’s Hotel Reception dressed in Eucalypts
January 9th 2021

Our Bride and Groom resided in Hawaii but decided to have their Aggie wedding in Texas.   A team of vendors flew from Hawaii to help Erin and Thomas with their dream reception and we enjoyed having Hawaii come to San Antonio!    The cake was a military ship for Thomas and Erin had the waiters/waitresses serve champagne with cognac.  Really good!  Our female lead singer and pianist played the beautiful Steinway in the hotel lobby for cocktail hour and then we rocked the ballroom after dinner.   Thank you Erin and Thomas for trusting Gunpowder Soup for your special day!

Why are wedding bands better than DJ’s for weddings?

  • More action on stage
  • Bands keep grandma/grandpa and children occupied
  • Bands create action and start the party early
  • DJ’s might have a large selection of songs but bands give the event a one-on-one feel
  • Hire a wedding band not a bar band for your wedding reception.  Years of playing 1st dances, emceeing wedding customs, and special dances are what a professional wedding band does every weekend.
WHY DO PEOPLE LOVE GPS!?

The reason people love Gunpowder Soup is because we are friendly.  We have fun performing and we will share this energy!

Gunpowder Soup is ONE band, not a business that incorporates many bands under one management.

Bushiness that run many bands must overcharge for their services.  We can charge you the high price and perform everything they promise, but we are here to keep the price down!    Other bands advertise many services like house lighting, 300+ songs, and six or more band members, but the services come with a high price tag.

Gunpowder Soup is technically smart and our engineer has a Masters in EE from UT in Austin. Our sound system is constantly updated and the owners have a patent!  Some bands do not own their own gear and trouble can happen.

Our band members plays FOUR or more instruments so we can fill in musical parts when necessary!  Eight or more players will cost you money.

Kaitlyn and Ben’s Longhorn Wedding
Hotel Ella in Austin – August 2020

Miss Kaitlyn and Ben had invited 100+ guests for their reception but Covid changed those plans.  The venue cut the guests count to 40 and dinner tables were spread far apart in a large ballroom.   But, the fun couple went with the flow and had an adorable ceremony and quant reception.   Gunpowder Soup played acoustic guitar for the ceremony and down sized from full band to a trio at the reception.    Kaitlyn called GPS a year and a half ago and dang, we were going to play for her special day.    Also, finally Gunpowder Soup got to play “The Eyes of Texas” for our Austin grads!!  GPS employs 2 UT grads on stage!

The Forest Club – Houston Texas
February 13, 2021

Under a clear tent with propane heaters and cold dark night, the wedding party was hot and ready to party.   The Forest Country Club in Houston was extended by a huge tent where the ceremony took place in front of the stage with candles, large flower displays, and lovely drapes.   After the ceremony, Gunpowder Soup had the dance floor hopping and the fun started off with the bride and father dance.   The dance was Sweet Caroline, hence the bride’s name was Caroline, and the wedding party surrounded the dance couple singing the song as we all know it!   What a way to start the party!

Gunpowder Soup decided to drive back that night due to the massive winter storm coming into Texas.  We did not want to be stuck in a hotel for three days and it was already sleeting on the band while we loaded out.   The drive was treacherous and the band got back into San Antonio at 6:30am just in time before the snow storm.    We go the extra mile so that our contract with the client is fulfilled.    Being a professional top tier wedding band is hard business and we work hard to earn everyone’s business.
